Don’t Worry, I’m Still Here!

Posted by Daiyaan under Daiyaan's Progress

Hey everyone, after receiving a lot of emails recently as to whether this website is still functioning, I thought I’d give an update as to what is going on.

Do not worry, I have not given up, I can’t be stopped that easily. For those that don’t know, I have a shoulder injury that I seemed to have got during a cricket match (fast bowling is suicide on the joints). I am having some expert physiotherapy done on it next week and will finally get it fully and properly diagnosed. I will keep you updated on how that all goes.

My current plans are:

  • Let the shoulder heal
  • Let the shoulder heal
  • Do some gentle exercises to strengthen the shoulder
  • Let the shoulder heal
  • Let the shoulder heal

To avoid another shoulder injury happening and stunting my progress with bodybuilding, I have to let the shoulder heal. Once it has fully recovered I will restart my challenge.

Now, until next week, I cannot give any details as to how long it will take to recover etc, but I am aware that shoulder injuries can sometimes take months and even years to recover. I don’t think it is serious enough for it to be taking months to recover so hopefully I will be up and running before the start of september.

Anyway, I look forward to speaking to you soon,

Daiyaan

Even Harder Challenge - Now Just One Day To Start!

Posted by Daiyaan under Preseason

Hello everyone! I thought I might leave the start of my challenge till the summer holidays as I have exams coming up this June. However I asked myself, does the average person have ridiculous amounts of free time just to workout? NO! People have busy lives to keep up with, jobs to attend to - many other things to do. So I don’t want to be at an advantage to most people by leaving my workouts till the holidays. I have decided to start my training tomorrow. That means, that I shall have to fit in my workouts along with my school life, exam revision and run my businesses at the same time. Like most people, bodybuilding is not my profession, I have limited time and many other things to do. For that reason, I have decided that I will start training tomorrow and see if it is possible to fit an intense fitness program into a busy life.

I will publish another post in a few minutes to show how this whole thing is going to work with a picture of my current self - before any workouts/diets along with stats of my current body composition. AND I will tell you how the whole website is going to run - what it is exactly that I will be posting.

The Lean Mean Fat Measuring Machine

Posted by Daiyaan under Preseason

Tanita Body Composition MonitorThis incredible machine is…INCREDIBLE! I bought it a couple of days ago and it is what I will be using to measure my progress. It is made by a company called Tanita and this particular model is the “BC-541″. It works by sending a small electric signal through my feet and around my body. It not only measures my weight but all of these things aswell:

  • Body Fat %
  • Body Water %
  • Muscle Mass
  • Bone Mass
  • Visceral Fat
  • Metabolic Age
  • Metabolic Rating

The muscle mass feature is probably going to be the result I will check most often. I shall be using this machine and posting my results every week so that everyone can see my progress as they are on paper. I look forward to speaking to you all again soon.

Time Lapse: Construction of the Power Rack

Posted by Daiyaan under Preseason, Videos

And finally, the last piece of required equipment for my challenge - the “power rack”. This is the time lapse video of me constructing it - 5 hours in 1 minute 50 seconds. Building this beast of a machine was quite a workout in itself, especially having to construct it alone. I was completely exhausted by the end of it, especially having to turn the bolts at the top not to mention smashing my head against the bar a couple of times. But finally, it is all done. Everything is ready to go and all of my nutrients have arrived. I will be announcing my start date in the next day or so, so do keep a look out.

The equipment finally arrived! Here is the time lapse of me building the weight lifting bench - 2 hours in 1 minute 15 seconds. I’m going to be posting the time lapse of the power rack in the next few days too so be sure to check back.

IT’S STILL ON! IN FACT, MORE THAN EVER!

Posted by Daiyaan under Preseason

Hey everybody, I’ve received a few emails asking if this whole thing is still on as I haven’t posted anything for a while. Just to confirm, as the title suggests, it’s still on, MORE THAN EVER! I have just ordered the equipment so the stuff should be arriving soon. I have layed a carpet down in the garage/gym room (not properly but it will do the job for now) and I’ll post an updated picture of the garage very soon. I’m currently figuring out the routine that fits my week and my equipment.

I look forward to speaking to you soon.

Boarded Up! Just A Bit Of Toning Left

Posted by Daiyaan under Preseason

Garage Picture 3As you can see, the garage has now been insulated and boarded up. All that needs to be done now is some carpet laying and a quick layer of paint. After that, the gym equipment will arrive and I shall begin my journey.

Almost There! Huge Weight Loss!

Posted by Daiyaan under Preseason

Garage Picture 2Check this out! After endless hours of hard work, the garage is finally clear. How about that for weight loss? Yes, I know, it’s ugly and I am going to board it up and lay down some carpet. However, I might plan to buy the gym equipment soon, before it gets boarded so that I can make a prompt start. Stay tuned as I will be posting updates on the progress of the “home gym” and my progress.

Does Anybody Want To Help?

Posted by Daiyaan under Preseason

Garage Pic 1This is where I will be working out. Yes, that dump right there. I am going to be cleaning out this garage completely, boarding it up and preparing it for my own little gym soon. As you can see, there is a lot of stuff in there (thank god for ebay) so I am going to be very busy. My plan is to clear out the garage, then to board up the walls so that the garage stays warm. After that, I will lay down some carpet, or mats and order the gym equipment. I will be sure to post any pictures of the “progress” of the garage. It is on it’s own little weight loss challenge.

Does Weight Lifting Stunt Your Growth?

Posted by Daiyaan under Bodybuilding

You’ve probably heard this many times before from various sources. “Bodybuilding stunts your growth!”. This specifically applies to teenagers more than any other age group because it is in those ages that growth takes place. Well, the truth is…

WEIGHTLIFTING DOES NOT STUNT YOUR GROWTH!

That’s right, you heard me (or read) correctly, weight lifting does not stunt your growth. Famous sports stars including Shaquille O’Neal, David Robinson, Karl Malone, Michael Vick all started weight lifting in their early teen years and all have grown to be taller than 6 feet tall. Arnold Schwarzenegger himself admits that he started weight lifting at a young age and has grown to be 6′ 2″. Lou Ferrigno (”The Incredible Hulk“) started working out at the age of 14 at the height of 5′ 9″ and grew to a height of 6′ 5″ - taller than anyone in his family! Now unless you class 6 feet as short, there is enough proof on TV to say that weight lifting does not stunt your growth. I started weight lifting at the age of 14 and I am now 6′ tall!

The compression forces on the legs and spine produced by what are classed as “normal” activities such as running and jumping are upto 5 times the bodyweight and it is unlikely that any liftable weight will be able to match this.

There is no scientific proof to say that weight lifting will stunt your growth. In fact, books such as the Russian “School of Height” suggest that weight lifting promotes growth. Recent surveys and studies show that weight lifting actually has positive effects on growth.

The only thing that can be dangerous when it comes to weight lifting is incorrect technique and form. This can lead to injuries but this is the same for any other activity. With correct technique and form, the risk of incurring injuries is very low.

I hope this clears up the misconception that weight lifting stunts your growth.
